How to Prepare for Aesthetic Surgery

What Should We Consider Before Aesthetic Surgery?

Plastic surgery like many other surgeries, requires preparation. These preparations are critical to a smooth surgical process. Failure to comply with certain regulations may result in the postponement or even cancellation of your plastic surgery. In the pre-aesthetic surgery period, patients are busy with some questions. Some of them; “What should I eat before surgery?” It was one of the first questions from patients. “How long should I starve?” “Am I allowed to take my blood pressure medication?” “Can I have some water?” “Can I smoke before surgery?” Questions like these are frequently asked.As Esthetic Hub clinic, we have compiled these questions for your convenience and information;

1. Blood thinners

You should stop using these and similar drugs, especially aspirin, at least 10 days before the procedure. Liposuction, tummy tuck, bbl, breast aesthetics and rhinoplasty are high-risk procedures. Your surgery may be compromised, as aspirin and related medications can cause excessive bleeding.

2. Cleaning of Armpit and Genital Area

You should clean your armpits and genital area at least a week beforehand. The skin will be vulnerable to infection due to the hair and hairs cut 1-2 days before the procedure. You can avoid this problem by cleaning the hairs a week in advance.

3. Birth Control Pill

Since birth control pills can cause clotting, especially in the legs, you should stop using them at least one month before the surgery. (Cloth Discharge: Vascular occlusion in the legs)

4. Herbal teas

Some herbal drinks can increase the chance of bleeding. As a result, you should avoid and stay away from herbal drinks one week before and one week after the surgery.

5. Fasting for 6-8 Hours

It is recommended to fast for 6 to 8 hours before surgery. It should not be consumed during this process period, including water. This is because of the danger of vomiting caused by a full stomach during general anesthesia. In this case, fluid and food may flow into your windpipe. The 6 to 8 fasting rule should be followed to avoid negative consequences. If you need to take medication, you should visit your doctor and talk about it. Your doctor may recommend that you consume your medicine with a very small amount of water.

6. Take a Bath

Taking a shower before the procedure or before going to bed at night will help you relax.

7. Avoid Heavy Sports

Heavy sports should be avoided 15 days before plastic surgery. Let your body rest. You can participate in lighter sports. Having surgery while tired can negatively affect the healing process.

8. Avoid dieting

You can quit your diet 10 days before your plastic surgery or switch to a healthier diet. You can continue with your usual diet. At least 2-3 days before the procedure, you should avoid eating things that will cause constipation so that constipation does not occur.

9. Avoid smoking and drug use

You should stop smoking at least two days before the procedure. It is well known that smoking impairs the circulation of oxygen in the blood. This scenario especially complicates the healing of surgical wounds. It has been observed that people who use drugs have difficulties during surgery. It is known that a patient who does not use drugs needs sedatives approximately three times as much. Since smoking and alcohol encourage the formation of sputum in the mouth, it can create difficulties during surgery. Marijuana use just before surgery can result in heart strain or possibly a heart attack.

10. Complete your control tests

You must pass control tests one month before your surgery. By understanding your blood level, these tests can determine whether you have a health problem that prevents surgery. It would be beneficial for patients over the age of 40 to undergo cardiology controls and be informed about their heart health.

Control tests to be done;

  • Hemoglobin
  • Anti HIV
  • Anti HCV
  • Blood group
  • AST
  • LOWER
  • Creatinine
  • Urea
  • Sodium
  • Potassium
  • Calcium
  • APTT
